Introductory post - King Alfred's Tower
Today I Learned about King Alfred's Tower. While scrolling through Instagram, I encountered the following image, a tower full of mystery. To be completely honest, until I googled I thought the bottom half of the tower was a reflection on water of the upper half. I thought it was a lake or something, I don't know.
I don't want to bore readers with history stuff (it was built in the past and wealthy people owned it, to commemorate the end of the seven years war against France) but one interesting fact I discovered is that a whole plane crashed on it.
A burning question: Who was King Alfred? Alfred the Great, one of the kings in English history known as 'the great', was king of Wessex in the 9th century AD preventing the Danes from conquering England and promoting learning and literacy. Must have been pretty damn good if you're one of two people in the massive history of England known as "The Great"
